The 1912 13 lyceum season in Newberg offers a varied lineup led by Bob Leeds with topics Mistakes of Life Exposed and How God Made the Soil Fertile. Other acts include Carter's Jubilee Co and Ex Governor Robert S Glenn. Tickets at $2 include a reserved seat with advance sales ongoing through opening night.

Surprise engagement shocks Oregon shower guests

A social shower hosted by Mrs. A. C. Seely for Miss Pearl Cummings ends with the announcement that she will marry a gentleman from Illinois. The revelation surprised nearly all attendees, who had assumed she would marry locally.

Wedding Shower Draws Many Guests in Newberg

A wedding shower for the bride elect drew numerous guests in Newberg. Gifts included hand embroidery and kitchen articles made by guests. A guessing contest about flowers from grandmother’s garden added light entertainment as Mrs. A. B. Wilmot and Mrs. Seely served refreshments.

Circuit Court Week Sees Pleas and Settlements in District

Judge Kelley convened Depart ment No 1 at ten. Several jurors failed to appear or were excused. Grand jurors named include F C Eddy, Harvey Berry, Doney, Chris Ecks, E J Converse, W R Force, J W. Multiple cases settled or dismissed. Sullivan pleads guilty to simple larceny. Countryman case dropped. Orchard Development case settled. Lee and Houk, and Coad cases resolved with payments. Mr Matthews awarded damages for stock fraud.

Suffrage Club Luncheon Spurs Newberg Equality Effort

Mrs Laura Morris led a luncheon at her Hancock street home for the local Suffrage Club as Newberg women rally for equal suffrage. The group seeks male public support and plans a sermon on Enfranchisement of Women and a September 26 meeting with Mrs Eva Hull inviting all interested ladies.

Jolly Party Hosts Include Pearl Cummings Mock Wedding

Mrs. John W. Barcroft Jr. led a Monday night gathering for Miss Pearl Cummings with help from sister Mrs. A. B. Wilmot of Oregon City. A mock wedding was staged with unnamed groom and clergy roles, joined by Mrs. Nelson Brouillette, Mrs. S. Brouill ette, Mrs. Clyde Hale and Miss Pearl Cobb among the guests.

Libel suit settled out of court against Graphic editor

Edith Patterson sued the Graphic for libel but the case was settled out of court and dismissed. The Telegram item cited an Oregon woman named Peterson, not Patterson, and the Graphic published in good faith thinking it referred to Mrs Patterson amid reader confusion from Newbery.

St Paul Boosters Press for Rail Line and Dairy Growth

W S Wharton reports a Saint Paul Commercial Club meeting aimed at attracting railroad expansion through St Paul and advancing diversified farming. Speakers urged accurate farming accounts, labor valuation, a dairy herd lecture by Prof. C L Smith, and building a Newberg to St Paul thoroughfare to spur rail competition.
