Clean Up Day at College Planned by Faculty and Students

Two Drownings at Yeager's Ferry on Willamette River
Two youths died when they jumped into the Willamette at Yeager's Ferry near Newberg to aid an infrared rescue. One girl Ruth Doyle and Lewis Stadel perished after attempting to save her. Stadel, a Lansing Michigan native, and the girl were both drowned. Bodies were recovered and prepared for burial in Portland and Lansing.

Wilson Berry Found Dead in Bed
Wilson Berry a 75 year old resident of West Chehalem was found dead in bed Tuesday morning after being unresponsive since Monday night. The local Odd Fellows lodge to which he belonged held the deceased in esteem. The report notes no prior warning or apparent cause of death.

Bootlegger flees arrest on Wood River
Jim Graham of Fort Klamath was arrested for obtaining whiskey for an Indian woman known as White Cindy. He leapt into Wood River to escape Deputy Vose but was captured after crossing to the opposite bank. U S Marshal Geo E Jakson then took Graham to Portland and also transported Archie Maher of Klamath Falls on a like charge.

Warehouse Burned at Dilley Loss About Four Thousand
A warehouse at Dilley in Washington county was destroyed by fire last Saturday. It belonged to farmer N. C. Johnson and contained his hay crop of 100 tons and about 400 sacks of oats. The loss is estimated at $4,000 with no insurance.
