A letter recounts a Newberg visit to the Panama-Pacific Exposition. The writer praises the fair yet complains the guide book is overbearing and labeling would help visitors. They describe art galleries, crowd fatigue, and humorous mishaps aboard the voyage home.
Joseph and Miriam Wilson celebrated their Golden Wedding at home on Chehalem and Wynooski streets marking fifty years since their 1865 marriage in Carthage Indiana. Family and friends gathered for a noon diaper and afternoon reception with autumn decor and yellow white flowers.
Tuesday morning visits to Chehalem Center schools praised by board member Childers and Principal Strait. Teachers reported strong interest in No 92 and No 68 Ribbon Ridge, with Miss Eleanor, Miss Lela Hevland, and Mrs Carter guiding coastal grade and industrial club work. A new fence for the grounds and a Latin class at No 10 West Chehalem were noted as signs of growing district support and improved facilities.
The speaker notes the grounds are among the county’s most beautiful and predicts changes may come with another year in the district.
Miss Mary Kenworthy a Pacific College teacher for two years married Robert M Henley of Hartford City Indiana at the bride’s parents home in Richmond Indiana. Rev Truman C Kenworthy officiated and the couple planned a Kentucky honeymoon including Mammoth Cave before settling in Hartford City. Rev Charles O Whitely of Newberg attended.
Professor Hawkins will present an evening of readings in Wood-Mar Hall on November 1 to support the College Piano Fund. Admission is ten cents and the show promises a delightful program with humorous readings, assisted by Miss Katherine Romig in two songs with violin and cello duet.
The Oregon land and industrial show opens October 25 in Portland and runs until November 13. It features fruits grains grasses and vegetables from Oregon and the Northwest plus factory exhibits over 75 000 square feet. Attendance is expected to exceed 150 000 for the eighteen days.
Ellen Rosetta Grabenhorat and Joan Wayne Lovett obtain a marriage license. The notice lists a Christian church service Sunday morning at the Christian Perfection and an evening program titled Naman, the Leper.
Paul V. Maris of Marshall Missouri is elected by the Oregon Agricultural College Board of Regents to the state leader post for county agricultural agents filling the vacancy created by H T French. Maris a Missouri dairy and rural economics specialist and former Saline County county agent brings extensive agricultural journalism experience.
Martin Miller, Assessor, lists district wide totals including 518 353 acres of all lands and 6 983 horses and mules. Values shown include town lots 1 025 915 dollars and improvements on deeds 81 447 810 dollars. Other items include cattle 282 320 dollars and sheep 24 127 dollars with utilities excluded.
