Social whirl at Hawkins home hosts two autumnal gatherings

Social events on Tuesday and Wednesday at Mrs. Peter F. Hawkins 715 Third street featured games, prizes for Mrs. Evats and Mrs. Baird, a luncheon, and performances by Mrs. Whitely, Mrs. Zamwalt, and Mrs. Babcock. Guests included many local residents and visitors from McMinnville Dundee and Sterling.

Grants Pass Oregon October 18 Special J L Myers ex Mayor of Grants Pass was shot and killed by James Manuel who mistook him for a deer Myers had cattle on the Cow Creek range about fifty miles north of Grants Pass The two men had gone hunting after reaching camp they separated and Manuel fired when he believed he was firing at a deer Myers had been a resident of Grants Pass for sixteen years where he was known as a public spirited man and former city council member who had held the mayoralty at one time The death was received with regrets by friends in Newberg where Myers grew up and worked as a barber before moving to Grants Pass and a son of John Myers
