Washington October 21 Major General Henry, now on waiting orders, has been assigned to command the Department of the Missouri with headquarters at Omaha by direction of the president.
Exiled Salvadoran ex-president Ezeta traveled from Oakland to El Paso then to Juarez and Mexico City with allies J H Holmes and C S Greene. He seeks Mexican backing for a revolution to overthrow Salvadoran authorities and offers to surrender his country to Mexico in exchange for assistance.
President McKinley’s forthcoming message to Congress is seen as the most important since the Civil War. After his Western trip, he is expected to urge the Philippines become U S property with policy outlined to prevent anti expansion sentiment from growing. In Victoria the Empress of India reports a typhoon relaying danger to the transport Senator carrying the Fifty first Iowa regiment.

Lawton and Young command about 8000 troops at Arayat as Florida and Oeste gunboats prepare to push along the river to San Isidro a base for northern operations. The objective is Tarlac with heavy rains aiding the march and San Isidro reported reached.

In Colombia a revolution extends from Cucdnamaco to Lima with 10,000 troops gathering at Inuca aboard the Moyaca.
A rear-end collision on the Oregon Short Line near Farmington 16 miles north of Salt Lake City injures fireman Harry Coleman and engineer Sim Pigman. Both jumped to safety as two southbound freights were derailed and delays extended for hours.
