They praised Newberg modern streets and sights while detailing a 8700 mile route across the United States and plans to continue toward San Francisco Los Angeles and Australia or Mexico. They rely on fishing and guns for food and expect to rest days for sore feet.

Idaho Judge Guheen Dies by Own Hand in Portland
Idaho attorney general and noted political figure Judge Guheen killed himself in Portland on Lovejoy Street near 19th to 20th, after a period of nervous breakdown linked to heavy court and war work. He was 58 and had recently spent time at Portland Medical Hospital and Seaside.

Pioneer River Man Captain A J Geer Dies in Portland
Obituary recounts Captain A J Geer longtime steamboat pilot on the Willamette and Alaskan rivers. Born 1859 at Butteville, he began on the City of Salem, later commanded vessels through Cascade Rapids and the Yukon. Apple industry coming to front in Western Oregon
Lewis of the Oregon Growers Cooperative Association says a poor apple crop in Western Oregon from Roseburg to Portland could yield 500 cars next year and 1,000 cars or more with a good crop. He expects $1,000,000 to Western Oregon next year and $2,000,000 to $5,000,000 annually within five years, boosting local employment in harvesting, packing, and handling. The industry is growing, spraying improvements are urged to curb scab losses, and the cooperative has signed 11,000 acres, with Salem and Douglas Lane Dallas Sheridan districts expanding toward a 20,000 to 30,000 acre future.
