Music and readings followed as officers were elected to guide the merged Nebraska and Kansas Association for annual picnics each August.

Practice begins as lights are strung on First Street by the old band stand and games will be played with high school and college teams. A basketball team may follow later in the year.

Independence Girl Drowned in Willamette
Dallas friends of Miss Mamie Kellogg of Independence were shocked by her death in the Willamette River near her home Monday night. She had visited a doctor in Independence, walked toward her home, was last seen near the river, and portions of her clothing were found on the bank before her body was recovered. Officials attributed the death to temporary disorder from illness.
