Oregon Electric negotiations for station sites in Newberg

Oregon Electric right of way laboring over site locations in Newberg last week for a passenger station on First Street and freight station on Second Street. Company surveyors mapped routes through nearby properties, while owners reviewed offers and indicated willingness to name prices on return visits. Rally Day at Friends Church Draws Large Attendance

On October 6 Rally Day brought a bright morning to Friends Church with a full Sunday school and a large morning service. Rev Charles O Whitely delivered an excellent sermon as 300 diners enjoyed cafeteria style lunch in the basement. At 2 30 the annual roll call proceeded and the congregation sang When the Roll is Called up Yonder.

Book social at Pacific college honors donors with gifts

Friday evening October 4 the women's auxiliary held a book social in the college building. About 150 volumes were donated to the library many in sets and in memory of a student. Notable gifts included an encyclopedia and The Messages of the Presidents from Mr and Mrs O J Sherman of Portland. Other donations came from T S Sutton of Seattle and Friends back East Newbery supporters.

Shower Honors Mrs. Lyons Before Her Eastward Departure

About forty Presbyterian ladies gathered at Mrs. W. S. Wharton’s home for a farewell shower for Mrs. John F. Lyons who left town on Wednesday for the East. Hosts Mrs. E. E. Goff and Mrs. McEwen assisted. Musical selections by Mrs. Charles Morris, Mrs. Dwight Coulson, Miss Ethel Morris, Mrs. McEwen, and Miss Jessie Britt. Lyons received many gifts as a token of affection and best wishes. refreshments were served in the afternoon.

Farewell Reception for Rev and Mrs Lyons at Presbyterian Church

A Friday evening farewell honored Rev. John F Lyons and his wife at the Presbyterian church. Attendees expressed appreciation for his pastorate and noted their departure for other fields. Short speeches by Mr Kopp and Mr Andrews. Lyons replied warmly. Mrs Whiton Miss Ethel Morris and an instrumental group provided solos and selections. Tea and refreshments followed in the Sunday school rooms.

Annual Reception at College for New Students

The Christian Associations held their annual reception for new students at the college on Saturday evening. About thirty freshmen attended as autumn décor and pennants set a festive tone. The social committee organized entertainment with marching games and conversations, including a solo by John Brown and eight original songs, followed by light refreshments. The event fostered goodwill and promise for a successful college year.

General Cleanup Day Scheduled for October 19

A community notice states cleanup day will occur one week from next Saturday October 19 at local sites. Volunteers are urged to bring tools and follow safety guidelines.
