Portland Realty Board Tour to Newberg by Excursion Train
Saturday visitors from the Portland Realty Board and Ad Club rode 1:30 PM special to Newberg with about 200 aboard. They inspected Rex-Tigard wagon road work, toured the Newberg brick factory turning 40,000 bricks daily, and viewed drying kilns and a trolley line. Mayor N. C. Christenson welcomed them, urging a return visit.

Emmett R. Prosser died at his home in Newberg on Tuesday morning October 31 1911 at 3 30 am. He was born in Perrysburg New York on May 26 1862. He went to Wisconsin with his parents at age seven.

Glee Clubs Plan Concerts At Local College
The college music department schedules three concerts led by Nell Reuter and Katherine Romig. Reuter will perform with Romig aiding, in a November 27 recital free to the public. The Ladies Glee Club begins its season December 8 in the college chapel with paid admission for piano fund support. The Orpheus Glee Club plans a January concert.

Oregon Senator Hoskins Visits East of Spiceland Guests
Hon and Mrs J L Hoskins of Newberg Oregon called on Clarence M Brown Wednesday. They are guests of S M Woodward and family east of Spiceland. Thirty three years ago Hoskins moved from Charlottesville Indiana to Oregon. His family physician warned of a short life but he has survived a third of a century and appears hale for more years. Hoskins served as county recorder and is now a state senator and president of the U S National Bank of Newberg.

Pleasant Surprise For Mrs Bowers From Long-Lost Kin

He brought his daughter Gertrude and cousin Avis Ogden Espey from Portland and they stayed through the week visiting and expressing admiration for the west and Oregon.

Injunction Served In Sunday Closing Case
An injunction restraining Mayor Christenson and Recorder Nelson from enforcing the Sunday closing ordinance was served on Saturday. They must appear before Judge Galloway on Friday at 10 a.m. to show cause why it should not be made permanent. E. O. VanOsdal is named as the figurehead and C. Chapin as the attorney. The filing alleges judges and clerk served, polls from one to six, no booths, possible vote observation, women voters totaling 149, and residents outside city limits voting. The city will be represented by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney J L Conner.

Sacramento River Bridge Sets World Swing Span Record
The Southern Pacific builds a 400 foot swing span across the Sacramento River in California, the heaviest of its kind with a total bridge weight over 10 million pounds. Only two other swing span bridges exceed its length, with similar heavy construction across the Willamette and Missouri rivers. The Sacramento bridge will carry two tracks plus a concrete road, part of Harriman lines’ double tracking, and is being built by SP engineers with American Bridge Company fabrication.

Picking the White Elephant at Presbyterians Fundraiser
The Presbyterian church fundraiser last Friday featured a playful elephant decoration sold for fund-raising, covered with paper decorations, and then stripped as proceeds. The event, organized by Miss Britt, Miss Langton, Mr. Lutz, and Mr. Rohrbough with church trustees, raised enough to cover the debt on which the church paid interest. The doxology preceded refreshments prepared by the Ladies’ Aid.

James S. Benson a Cottage Grove druggist was fined 160 by Judge Harris after pleading guilty to violating the local option law. His attorney contended he sold no liquor and instructed his clerk not to, but the clerk acted without knowledge. The district attorney questioned practices of pharmacists.
