M O Lowndale the Horticultural Commissioner urges orchard owners to cut back and top graft old trees immediately to prevent mid summer cutting and possible tree loss. He notes public notices and state board action to clean up diseased orchards and pressures owners to act this season.
Ukiah area ranchers embrace a new pest control method against fruit tree scale. Professor Harlan notes black ants deter the scale, with trials showing ants transfer from sugar plates to affected trees and clear scale quickly. The plan could be worth thousands to fruit growers.

Marvin and Calvin Blair of the class of 1904 were home visitors recently. Prof Rayner hosted Figoot and several Riley friends. Harry Maxfield class of 1908 notes he mentors the Sunday School in Quillayute Washington. Worth Coulson 1905 and sister Mrs Ethel Cox with friend Miss Nellie Brougher visited from Saturday to Monday with Miss Mamie Coulson. Laura Commons joined them to visit her sister still in school. After Shakespeare on Wednesday morning a note for 275 dollars payable to First National Bank and signed by several students and alumni was burned before the student body.
Chehalem Center residents recount weekend visits as Mr. Priestly of Portland visits Eva Howie and old friends. Mrs. H C Paulsen visits relatives while Misses Bertha Bunford and Mable Rush plan a basket picnic marking the school term end. W R Carter shows health improvement and Mrs. French and Mrs. Ekle return home. aie Owen of Newberg travels with Carter’s party.
Phoebe Wyatt, recently ill, returns to school near Salem after attending May examinations where 19 eighth graders earned diplomas and 23 were conditioned. Portland doctor Milligan spoke briefly. The Friday school fair drew many visitors. The high school track team went to Corvallis for the State Inter-Scholastic meet at O A C May 22. Eugene High won, Astoria took the relay, and John Larkin placed third in pole vault as hammer throw record fell. A six o clock banquet in Waldo hall followed, with medals and shields awarded.
