Miss Bernice Woodward Weds Wm A King in Grand May Ceremony
In a peculiarly impressive Friends ceremony, Miss Bernice Woodward married Mr. William A. King on Wednesday May 19 at eight in the home of her parents on North River street. The event featured Mendelssohn music, elaborate floral decorations, and a reception with refreshments. The couple will spend time in Seattle and Vancouver before settling in a new bungalow near the Woodward home.

Memorial Day observance on May 31 1909 at Duncans Hall Newberg led by Shiloh Post 77 Dept of Oregon G A R with Mrs Jennie Sykes presiding. Activities include dirge by Newberg Band readings by Chaplain and W R C service by local pupils chorus and instrumental selections plus memorial address by Capt James P Shaw and Lincoln Gettysburg address by Col Linville. The audience participates in a memorial service for the unknown dead.

Memorial Day Observance And School Fair At Newberg
The G A R and W R C plan Memorial Day events in Newberg on May 31 with help from the high school. A committee will arrange instrumental and two vocal numbers. A student debating team enjoyed a trip to Pendleton and Portland despite a defeat. They toured Pendleton, dined at The Dalles, then returned through Portland. A school fair at the building Friday features ice cream candy lemonade and Japanese booths with proceeds shared by the high school and grades. Seniors and juniors hosted a reception for the team at Crater's Hall with speeches by team members and Mr Wiley.

County W C T U Institute at Amity a successful event
The Yamhill County W C T U Institute was held in Amity Baptist church May 138 14 and praised for its success. The Amity group formed last June with nine members and grew to 29 at the institute plus three new members. Two resident pastors attended all sessions and support the local union. The county presiding officer Edith Minchin organized the event with local union cooperation. Mrs Neal B Inman of Portland, an experienced W C T U worker, led the broader campaign efforts.

Rachel N Griffin born July 16 1828 in New York married William R Edwards Aug 11 1846. The couple moved to Michigan Minnesota then Oregon arriving last September. She became a widow Oct 1 1906 and resided with daughter Mrs Eggers. She leaves several children in Minnesota Illinois Oregon and Portland. Funeral at M E church by Rev Young and burial in G A R cemetery.
