Lusitania Sunk By Submarine Off Irish Coast

The Cunard liner Lusitania sank after being torpedoed by a German submarine near the Irish coast. About 1500 people perished or were lost as lifeboats filled and chaos followed. Notable victims included Alfred Vanderbilt and Charles Frohman, while Mrs. Cook, known as Mother, and her elderly husband were among residents recalled from the valley after 17 years in Oregon.

Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebrated by Mr and Mrs John Cook

The Graphic recalls Mr. and Mrs. John W Cook marking fifty years of marriage with a celebration at North Yakima Washington hosted by their family. The couple, married in Bedford Iowa, hosted guests from 1 30 to 5 30 and 7 to 9 as flowers and refreshments filled their Powerhouse road home. Their sons Allan and Marion Cook attended, one living with them in Selah and the other in Caldwell Idaho.

Willamette Club Clobbers Springbrook 20–3 in League Blowout

The Willamette Athletic Club baseball team routed Springbrook 20 to 3 last Saturday. Springbrook had been the only league foe to beat Willamette this season as the league season wraps up next Saturday with final standings at stake.

Willamette Club members have prepared a tennis court between Second and Third on College streets. The court belongs to Elmer Beuhler and the club plans several tournaments in the near future.

The Civic Improvement Association announces its annual rose show on Saturday May 22 starting at 10 am with a baby parade at 10 am. Exhibits close for judging by noon and open to the public at 1 pm. Prizes offered for multiple rose varieties and collections. rose committee lists organizers.

Peace Orations Highlight Lyceum Session at Friends Church

Walter Wilson Meade Elliott Ellis Pickett and Arthur Benson delivered peace orations at the peace session of the Quarterly Meeting held in the Friends church last Friday evening. Two orations by Wilson and Elliott led the old line and peace contests respectively. Elizabeth Strate ex P A 15 visited the college this week. Rev Charles O Whitely was a chapel visitor recently. The Y W C A weekly meeting on Wednesday focused on promoting the annual summer conference. Rev Homer Cox of Sunnyside Friends church Portland led the regular Y M C A meeting this week.
