Lusitania Sunk By Submarine Off Irish Coast
The Cunard liner Lusitania sank after being torpedoed by a German submarine near the Irish coast. About 1500 people perished or were lost as lifeboats filled and chaos followed. Notable victims included Alfred Vanderbilt and Charles Frohman, while Mrs. Cook, known as Mother, and her elderly husband were among residents recalled from the valley after 17 years in Oregon.
