Loss of Two Lives by Fire in Newberg Family
A fire at the northwest Newberg home of H F Nelson killed his wife and their seven year old daughter. Mrs Nelson had bathed the child with turpentine ointment after a cold. a spill on the stove ignited the clothes. Both were severely burned. the child died the same day, the mother the next morning after naming details to her husband. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church with pastor A T Norwood leading a large attendance.

Cattle stayed mostly steady with Monday gains as several choice steers hit 8.00 and 8.25 while typical steers average 7.50 to 7.75. Cows sold 6.00 to 6.50, bulls 5.00 to 6.00, and heifers fair quality. Hog prices rose 15 to 20 cents with top loads at 8.35 and most sales 8.00 to 8.15. sheep remained weak with wethers 6.15 and ewes 5.00, lambs steady to slower at 7.00 for the top wool variety.
