Portland meet aims for high altitude record flight

Daring aviator Charlie K. Se plans a high altitude attempt in a Curtiss biplane at the Portland meet amid cross country and high speed records. Railroads offer one and one third fare to spectators from Portland, Medford and The Dalles. Local businessmen will fly machines and promote the event prompting public support and registrations.

Francis Willard Memorial Meeting Held by WCTU at Mrs New House

The Chehalem Center report covers the Francis Willard memorial meeting at Mrs S W New house on February 17. Edith Minchin delivered a paper on Francis B Willard and others read selections. a $3.61 memorial fund was raised. Mrs N G Kirk left to be with her daughter. Death of Mrs M Wooton Former Newberg Pastor

Word from Pennsylvania reports the death of Mrs M Wooton former pastor of Friends church in Newberg after a severe apoplectic stroke followed by another stroke. She died February 11 at age seventy four years two months and twenty days. She was widely known from east to west and remembered for a sunny disposition while serving in church ministry.

The Walker family plans to depart for Alberta with the men leaving this week and the women following later. George Bush and family visit friends before an early week departure. Newberg Women Club Room Plan Urges Immediate Action

Mrs. Sloan leads a push to fund a women’s club room in Newberg at a cost of 4000 dollars the maximum for the city size. A meeting at Crater’s hall Thursday at 7 30 p m invites citizens with interest in the proposal to attend. Local sports notes report a 25 24 free throw and a Philomath field goal. Prof W J Reagan flew to Dallas Friday to referee a Dallas Philomath game. A Saturday league finale features a home game between McMinnville and the locals with high expectations.
