Pacific College Clinches Willamette Valley Championship

Pacific College won the Willamette Valley championship with a 19 to 14 road win over McMinnville College on a slippery Coliseum floor. Elliott led P C with 11 points, Gulley starred as a fourth-year senior, and Colcord and Hinshaw contributed solid guard play as no substitutions were needed.

David Starr Jordan Visits Newberg for Talks

President Pennington learned of Dr. David Starr Jordan accepting the invitation to Newberg. He spoke at Friends church at 8 p m for two hours about war, life in the European war zone, and the follies of war. He later addressed a large gathering at Wood-Mar hall at 10 a m, discussing Herbert Hoover and Stanley Stanford achievements.

Miss Jessie Britt to Lead Weekly Physical Training Course

In response to request Miss Jessie Britt graduate of the Sargent Normal School of Physical Training will conduct a weekly close beginning Thursday evening March 8 at 7 30 in Eckersons hall. The work designed to meet the needs of teachers and business girls but open to all ladies. Terms one dollar a month in advance.

Appeal for Belgian Children Food Fund Aid

J E Worlein of Portland appeals to Oregon residents to fund Belgian children’s relief during World War I. He urges wheat growers, cowboys, fishermen, dairymen, and schools to contribute, with Sunday March 4 set as Belgian Children's Relief Fund Day. Remittances go via the Eddy bank to the Belgian Children's Food Fund committee.

At Home Honoring Washington Birthday by Mrs Avery

Mrs Clyde C Avery hosted an At Home at her Fourth and River streets residence. The reception rooms featured National colors red carnations and English ivy while the dining room glowed with daffodils. Early afternoon Five Hundred games crowned Mrs George Larkin winner. A luncheon followed at small tables with help from Mrs W T Anderson Mrs C H Fitzpatrick and Mrs F D Eckerson.

Pacific College Glee Club under Prof Hull will present a home concert in Wood Mar hall Monday evening March 12. Part of the proceeds go to the piano fund. Tickets are twenty five cents at eight o'clock.

Golden wedding anniversary celebrated on Fourth Street

On Fourth Street a golden wedding anniversary event honored Mr. and Mrs. Dobbins with neighbors and friends sharing a light lunch. Guests included Linville Britt Moore Mills Palmer Byers Pike Ha worth Douglas McCleery Cornett Dobbins and Ralph Dobbins. Comrade Dobbins enlisted in 1861 in the 12th Iowa Infantry and married in Iowa in 1867.

Newberg Upsets McMinnville In High School Clash

A special train carried 240 Newberg supporters to McMinnville for a high school game. Newberg trailed 7 5 at halftime but rallied to win 15 10 as Best Craw and Miller delivered key baskets. McMinnville lineup included Baird icctiaelli Eckman and more.

P T A Urges Cooperation of Parents Teachers
