Twenty Sixth Annual Friends Meeting Opens in Newberg
The twenty sixth annual gathering of the Friends church met in Newberg with Presiding Clerk Pennington and officers named. Delegates from Portland Salem Newberg and Boise Valley discussed committees foreign missions and running expenses including a $500 foreign missionary appropriation and nearly $700 for Pacific College running costs. Attendance marked by reminiscences and greetings from former leaders and a program highlighting temperance education and missions.

Miss Mary Williams Dies at 78 in Newberg Home
Miss Mary Agnes Williams aged 78 died at her home 406 North School street after months of poor health. She leaves two sisters Lavina and Clara Williams and two brothers H. M. of Newberg and George P. Williams of Portland. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Wednesday conducted by Rev. F C Stannard. Born April 14 1840 near Schellsburg Pennsylvania she came to Oregon about thirty years ago settling in Newberg and served as a trained nurse active in church and philanthropy.

Auto hit by train at McMinnville in fatal family crash
A Sunday evening collision near Fifth Street in McMinnville killed Grant Smith, 49, instantly after his car was struck by a Southern Pacific electric train. His wife, 48, died at the hospital two hours later and their daughter Dorothy, 17, was badly bruised. two other children, aged 19 and 17, and a 14-year-old son, survive.
