Commencement Week at Pacific College Highlights
Pacific College held a condensed commencement week with only two graduates, both women, as alumni and former students attended. Events included a Saturday concert by Eva Hummer Hull and Alexander Hull, a baccalaureate by President Pennington, an address by Paulias, and dramatic senior studies. Christine Hollingsworth and Mildred Benson earned bachelor of arts degrees, Lloyd Edwards added a bachelor of arts and science, and alumni honors and prizes were awarded before the Wednesday alumni banquet.

Junior Class Play Delights Nearberg High Crowd
Nearberg high school's annual Junior Class play drew a deci ded successful crowd Friday night with strong performances by Miss E Jones director and a list of performers led by Pauline Miller as Nane Mina Lutzan and Clifford Jones as Shylock. The show, repeated Saturday in Rex as a Red Cross benefit, earned praise for acting and humor.

Exams Set for State Certificates in McMinnville
The County Superintendent of Yam Hill County Oregon will hold a regular examination for state certificates in McMinnville from Wednesday June 26 at 9 a.m. to Saturday June 29 at 4 p.m. Readings cover U S history penmanship music drawing physiology reading manual training composition domestic science methods in reading and course of study for drawing on Wednesday. Thursday lists arithmetic education psychology geography drawing domestic art and related topics. Friday includes theory practice spelling physical geography English literature chemistry physical culture and law geography algebra civil government. Saturday covers geometry botany general history bookkeeping.

Andrew J Palmer died at his Dundee home on Thursday June 6 from injuries in timber work causing paralysis. Funeral services were Sunday at Friends church Newberg led by Rev R E Myers. Pallbearers were Shiloh Post G A R and W R C members. Survived by widow, one daughter Mrs Mary P Johnson, five grandchildren including Army member Carlos P Johnson, and three brothers.

The twenty sixth annual Oregon Yearly Meeting of Friends church began in Newberg with Kington presiding. Marguerite Elliott read as reading clerk and Oliver Weesner served as recording clerk. Sessions run through the week with a Saturday program marking the meeting’s twenty fifth anniversary. Rev. A. M. Bray will read a reminiscence, followed by talks by Rev. R. E. Pretlow of Seattle and Rev. Chas. E. Tebbetts of Whittier California.

Former Newberg Man Drowned Sunday
Emmett L. Allen of 930 Hood Street died Sunday in the Clackamas River while rescuing 20 year old Oregon City girl Miss Willa Woodfin from the swift current. Two companions watched as Allen vanished after aiding Woodfin, and a fisherman located the body meters downstream. He was about 40 and employed as a riveter at Northwest Steel Company. He is survived by his wife and both parents.
