Willamette Valley Chautauqua Opens at Gladstone Park

The 21st Willamette Valley Chautauqua runs July 7 to 19 1914 at Gladstone Park with 26 afternoon and evening programs and many morning classes. Performers include the Dixie Jubilee Singers Plattenburg Ash Davis and Dr Thomas B Green. Five local baseball teams join daily shows and a season ticket costs 2.50 with 25 cent daily admissions.

Fifty Years in Railroading Celebrated for S T Gage

Solomon T. Gage of Cleveland marked fifty years in railroading with a luncheon tribute. The Lake Shore superintendent of passenger transportation received a solid silver coffee and tea set from General Manager D C Moon as colleagues congratulated him on reaching the milestone. Gage began as a telegraph operator at White Pigeon Michigan and rose through Elkhart Chicago to become Cleveland chief clerk before his 1904 promotion.
