A communication to Mr. Harding and Congress argues that 93 percent of the budget funds postwar and preparation for future war, urging arms reduction. It endorses a naval holiday and a world-wide arms-reduction movement led by the United States, stressing humanitarian and civilizational stakes.
Addison Hawley born August 27 1840 in Genesee County New York moved with family to Quincy Michigan as a youth. He served in the Civil War returning home health affected by southern fevers. He lived in Minnesota near Hancock and Newberg Oregon later. He joined the Seventh Day Adventist church in 1888 and remained a faithful member. He died January 4 1921 in Newberg leaving a daughter Carrie M Johnson of Newberg and a sister Nancy P Marsh of Manistee Michigan.
The noted world traveler and platform speaker Robert Parker Miles will give a lyceum number at Wood-Mar Hall tonight at eight o'clock sharp.
W A Ryan of Ford Motor Co says rumors of a new body design for the current model are false. He notes minor changes have occurred this year, including a different gas tank and steering wheel size, with further engineering-driven updates possible.
The city fire department elected J. H. Sherlock as Chief Orville Smith as Assistant Chief and Dave Smith as Secretary Treasurer at the Tuesday night meeting. Monthly meetings move to the second Monday. A cigar box from U S National Bank was shared as a Christmas greeting and the evening closed with a lunch.
The annual election of officers was held on Tuesday and the old officials were retained. Stockholders praised the efficient management and noted growth in business volume during the past year.
At the January 10 annual meeting in Salem the Oregon Growers Cooperative Association approved a bylaws amendment shifting director representation from counties to districts. Western Oregon will have fourteen districts including Newberg defined by parts of Yamhill and Washington counties. Beginning next year districts nominate directors by mass meeting or local secret ballot. The Newberg area had previously lacked direct representation on the board.
The Commercial Club plans a banquet at the Legion hall Friday night with a toastmaster introduction by Geo. Kelly and a program featuring Mayor S. M. Calkins on pleasures and tribulations of a mayor, banker memories by W. H. Woodworth, dentist notes by Dr. R. W. Van Valin, a reading by John Larkin, and legal brief by Co. A. Butt.
Harold N. Lee of Newberg led 1,700 University of Oregon students with the highest fall term grade, earning Honors in his thirteen-hour term. He majors in English Literature and surpasses even President Wilson’s earlier college ranking.
On Saturday January 8 8 00 pm Raymond Eugene Amy and Miss Helen Elma Smith wed at Rev Charles E Gibson’s home. The groom served in the Light Artillery of the 7th Division overseas and the bride has worked as a telegraph operator for the Southern Pacific in Newberg. They will remain here briefly.

George H. Himes of the Oregon Historical Society will give an illustrated lecture at Wood-Mar Hall next Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. The talk covers early Oregon history from 1766 and Northwest developments with emphasis on Yamhill County. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Rees for the next year. The following day the board organized naming Parrett as President Hoskins as Vice President Butt as Secretary Colcord as Cashier M. Hoskins as Assistant Cashier W. E. Crozer and R. A. Butt as Assistant Cashiers and C. N. Terrell as Auditor.
At the Farmers Club meeting this Saturday in the can nery auditorium a pruning demonstration will be held. Attendees should arrive early to allow this part of the program to finish before the regular work. One and two year old trees will be shown and participants may bring young trees to use as models. Questions on high or low heading and the extent of pruning in early years will be addressed from actual experience.

Edwards of Tillamook chairs commerce and navigation while also serving on education fishing industries municipal affairs and railroads and utilities. Ed Carry of Yamhill leads food and dairy products and sits on elections. C M Lafollette misses a chair but sits on agriculture cities and towns and immigration. Senator Joseph of Multnomah dumps a law book at editor C C Chapman of the Oregon Voter amid sharp words.

Shiloh Post No 77 G A R and Shiloh No 28 W R C held a joint officer installation on January 6 at Duncan's hall. about 95 people attended a noon banquet then the assembly hall session. Geo Meader Jr as Post Commander and Minnie Byers as W R C installing officer led the ceremonies. Hendershott and Williams urged improvements at the Old Soldiers Home in Roseburg.
