Monday Evening Recital Delights Dun Can's Hall

A piano recital at Dun can's hall Monday evening drew a good crowd despite adverse conditions. The program, though not at peak, showed solid preparation by younger and advanced pupils, with Miss Britt and Mrs. Wilson guiding numerous standouts including Merritt Timberlake, Mona Timberlake, Wayne Nelson, and many others.

Christmas Play at Presbyterian Church

On Friday December 22 at eight oclock the Presbyterian youth present a Christmas play The Contest of the Days. Father Time presides as judge with seasons and days as attendants. New Year St Valentine Independence Thanksgiving and others are portrayed in song and recitation. Admission is free with a collection taken. Everyone is invited.

Strollers Quartette Delights College Audience With Variety

The Strollers Quartette performed a hour and a half show at the college on Tuesday evening. Lead Harvey Longstreet impressed with Scotch numbers such as I Love a Lassie and Wi oot 2 Wifie in humorous solo bits. The group also featured Hayden Thomas, Alfred Humfield, and David Whitehead with violin and piano interludes. The audience responded with hearty cheers and applause throughout the lively program.

Prune Orchard Change Hands Near Dundee for 30000

The W. G. Sanderson prune orchard of 190 acres southwest of Dundee sold for 30000. Purchasers are J. C. Castello and Philip Philan of Portland. The Mills brothers once owned the land and built homes there. The orchards, planted largely to Italian prunes, are highly regarded in the county.

College Boys to Give Concert by Orpheus Glee Club

The Orpheus Glee Club of the college will present its first concert in the chapel on January 19. The twenty five member male choir offers a lively mix of humorous and serious songs with Prof Hawkins slated to perform several numbers, promising an interesting evening.

Farmers Eye Newberg Warehouse Cooperative

A farmers meeting discussed forming an association to address water supply, springs, phone service, and future needs. They proposed a cooperative warehouse in Newberg to handle and market farm products, benefiting town and country businesses. Dr. Logan acted as chair with W. A. Baker as secretary and a Constitution committee named.

Editor Removes Tribune, Dayton Paper Change After Outburst

Mrs. J. J. Jones confronted Dayton editor D. C. Eshmun with an umbrella over a criticized sewing machine story. Eshmun printed a retraction that day and surrendered Tribune control to Fred T. Mellinger as editor.

College recital a great success for music students

Last Thursday's college recital by music students impressed a large audience with a two hour program. Piano and vocal pupils showed refined technique and tone, violin numbers pleased, and the violin trio by Delmar Porter, Earl Pinney, and Marvin Moore drew enthusiastic appreciation. Faculty praised the progress and overall success.

S P WANTS FRANCHISE FOR NEWBERG ELECTRIC LINE

Rumors swirl over Southern Pacific plans to build an electric line into Newberg. Col J B Eddy will present a city council franchise proposal for First and Meridian streets at a special Thursday meeting. The route would run eleven blocks west on First then eight north on Meridian to reconnect with the main line. The service would carry passengers locally with a gasoline motor, not freight, aiming to improve Portland access. a turntable site was being arranged in Newberg.

Celebration of Anniversary At Newberg Wisconsin Club Formed

Mr Ed Smith returns home on his birthday to a surprise party with Wisconsin residents in Newberg. Attendees include Mr and Mrs H L Christianson, Mrs G W Christianson, Mr and Mrs L A Moore, Mr and Mrs Chas Churchill, Mrs Mary Owen, Hosmer Smith, Miss E Baldwin, Miss Z Dimmock. A meal, songs, and a Sollification follow. A temporary Wisconsin club is formed with Chas Churchill as chairman and L A Moore as secretary. All Wisconsin residents urged to register at 306 Second Street.

President Pennington Calls for Third Step to World Peace

President Pennington spoke at Friends church on Peace Day outlining a transition from warlike methods to international cooperation. He argued past progress from tribal and state conflicts to unified nations and urged the twentieth century to end international warfare, citing war costs and the burden on education funding.
