County clerk C. B. Wilson recalled Sheridan residents boasting of catching any bank robbers in town. A week later the same gang reportedly entered the Bank of Newberg, blew the safe, and escaped with the coin. One man claimed a shot was fired as they fled. The Bank of Newberg was fully insured and reimbursed for damages.

John F. Carroll Publisher of Evening Telegram Dies
John F. Carroll, 59, publisher of the Evening Telegram, died at his Portland home after several months of illness. A Pennsylvania native educated at Pennsylvania Normal School and Western Reserve University, he spent most of his career in journalism and aided figures like Eugene Field and Paul Laurence Dunbar. He is survived by his wife and eight children.
