W S Wharton urges Newberg farmers to back the reopening of the Western Condensed Milk plant, slated to resume between September 1 and 10 after a March 20 1911 fire. He touts dairy expansion, soil enrichment, bank-backed loans for cows, and a lecture from Oregon Agricultural College to boost local dairying.
Mrs Florence Ewell Atkins of Nashville Tenn a renowned Southern orator and famed Gladstone chautauqua speaker will address the Friends church Sunday evening at 8 o clock. Attend this great opportunity.
The W C T U of Yambill County held its annual convention at First Baptist Church in McMinnville with delegates from local unions and state officers including Mrs Ada Wallace Unruh and Mrs Ward Swope. The program featured devotions, musical numbers, reports showing growth, a luncheon, and talks on temperance and missions. Continued on page 4.
The Yamhill County Veteran Association met in Dayton on August 23 1910s and reported the gathering among the best in years weather was fine and Dayton citizens gave lavish hospitality. Officers elected include Henry Sheard ville President Mrs Sheard Vice President D H Turner Treasurer H S Moloney Secretary Ezra Hayes and directors J Brown Sheridan S W Sigler C W Keene Captain Mead and B F Hevland. Resolutions praised Dayton hospitality and expressed gratitude to the Commercial Club Woman's Relief Corps and city authorities. The 1913 reunion is slated for McMinnville.
Dayton citizens in Oregon extend thanks to survivors of the great war visiting for the Yamhill County Veteran Association reunion. The resolutions invite future meetings, wish happiness and prosperity, and ask copies be sent to officials and the press for publication. Signed by R. L. Harris and others.
In 1911 Oregon produced 16 million pounds of wool from about 2 million sheep valued near 3 million dollars. Mohair worth 240 thousand dollars came from goats, with hops at 4 million dollars from 72 thousand bales. Poultry reached 9 million birds worth 7 million, eggs 32 million dozen valued at 9.6 million, and potatoes near 6 million bushels valued over 4 million. Onions yielded 175 thousand bushels worth 212 thousand, butter 3.4 million, and milk and cream from dairies 17 million gallons valued at 4 million. The dairy sector relied on imports to meet demand.
