In a bulletin from the O A C Experiment Station Corvallis advises prune growers to avoid rushed picking. Early delivery premiums often fail to compensate for losses from premature picking and weather can bring early rains. Delaying harvest reduces losses from immature fruit and excessive shaking, improving tonnage and profit.
The North Main Club met at Mrs. D. Nye's home on Wednesday of last week. Members offered sympathy and help to Mrs. Moffitt after a recent house fire. A luncheon followed, with readings by several members and a visiting guest, Mrs. Kennedy of Montana. The next meeting will be at Mountain View, Mrs. George Range’s home, next Wednesday.
The regular meeting was held at Mrs. Wills home. Preparations for the county convention in Newberg on Sept 4 and 5. Mrs Harford resigns as press superintendent and Y work secretary. Substitutes elected. Next meeting with Mrs Clark on Fifth Street near Dayton Avenue. Annual officer elections to be held. all members urged to attend.
A pleasant Wisconsin day at the city park for the annual Badger State celebration. Pres. N. L. Wiley welcomed attendees with a Lord address. Mr. Dean of Springbrook gave the response. The program featured songs readings and short talks. officers elected include F. L. Ames president and W. H. Dean vice president.
The Oregon Sportsman reports that after Judge Owen N. Denny's death, Oregon sportsmen seek subscriptions statewide to purchase a modest home for his widow and to establish a fund supporting her needs. Denny, who helped import Chinese pheasants to Oregon, is honored for his pioneering effort and lasting impact on local game propagation.
Due to late season and need for men on farm work the Pacific College opening is postponed. Registration and classification start the week beginning Sept 17 with full work in all departments beginning Monday Oct 1. Students should attend recitations at 8 15 on Oct 1.

Henry Abel Dimond died at his South Main home at 73 years 10 months after a illness noted earlier. Funeral services were at M E church with I O O F members leading from Hodson & Elliott chapel to the cemetery. Born October 12 1843 in Columbus Georgia he lived in Minnesota before moving to Newberg in 1904. He married Betsy Weeks in 1868 and leaves six living children and a widow.
A quiet Wednesday afternoon wedding united Miss Gertrude Hollingsworth and George A. Gwin at the Hollingsworth home in Newberg. Rev. Fred E. Carter officiated. Delith Carter played. The couple will reside in Quilcene where Gwin serves as city schools superintendent.

Gilbert Shambaugh of Rockford Ohio has been elected and accepted as the last regular faculty member for the coming year. He will teach History and English and lead Debating Extemporaneous Speaking and supervise the men’s dormitory. An Earlham College graduate he earned honors in public speaking and debate.
