Death of Hon J C Nelson at 93 in Newberg area
Hon J C Nelson died at his home near Washington and Hancock streets at about 6 a.m. Tuesday aged 93. Born May 26 1827 near Independence Missouri he joined the 1844 emigration to Oregon. He served in Oregon’s early legislatures and fought in the Cayuse War. Funeral was held at W W Hollingsworth Co chapel and burial in Lafayette Cemetery.

Obituary of Calvin Wells Pioneer Resident of Newberg
Calvin Wells born 1858 in Iowa to California bound parents moved through Oregon to Grants Pass and Southern Oregon. He married Isadora Seaman in 1892, settled near Newberg then on a farm north of town and later in Newberg due to ill health. He died of diabetes with funeral at Seventh Day Adventist Church led by Eld. Clarence Purdom. He leaves a widow and two brothers.

Auto Hit By Electric Train Near Dundee Station
Fred Hutchinson, son of Dundee, was badly injured when his Ford was struck by a four o clock electric train bound for Portland at the crossing south of Dundee station. He lies in a Newberg hospital with a fractured skull after the wrecked car was hurled from the tracks. He is about 18, and questions are delayed as he remains unconscious.

Moonshine Outfit Burned After Portland Raid Near Newberg
Federal officers raided a moonshine operation a mile and a half from Newberg on a Wednesday evening. They found a large, nearly complete plant with a 50 gallon barrel and a big copper still, all destined to produce about 100 gallons daily before it was set ablaze. The operation had been operated since last spring by Lawrence Hall with two men installed by unknown parties.
