The lyceum closed its year with Montaville Flowers performing readings from Ben Hur and analysis of The Tale of the Christ by Len Wallace. The chariot race and Ben Hur’s final scene with Iris were highlights. Strong praise for Flowers’s voice and dramatic rendition. early ticket subscriptions promise good seats for next season.

A Pretty Wedding at Cary Home

A very pretty wedding took place Wednesday at high noon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Cary. Lulu Cary married Vernon C. Tiedt of Portland with Miss Stella Jones as bridesmaid and Raleigh Fletcher as best man. Rev. Hamilton officiated. The couple, formerly of Mauston Wisconsin, plan to reside in Portland. They departed on the afternoon train amid rice and good wishes.

Great Musical Feast Delights College Audience

The Apollo Concert Co. drew a large campus crowd Monday evening with a varied program including bells solos on banjo cornet trombone saxophone and vocal selections. After the show patrons viewed saxophone instruments made in Elkhart Indiana praised for artistry and 22 karat gold finish with intricate engraving. The Ladies raised about 70 dollars and hope to book the Appellos again next week to fill the auditorium.

H O Blaisdell the world champion typewriter visited Newberg last week to demonstrate speed writing at the high school and Enterprise office. He records around 112 net words a minute in competition, using an Underwood machine, and has a five year contract at six thousand dollars annually. He practices four hours daily and does not smoke.

Southern Pacific to electrify 100 mile line in Oregon

The Southern Pacific will spend 2,000,000 to convert steam lines to electric power within 100 miles from Portland toward McMinnville by September 15. Crews began erecting 6,000 poles, rails are to be upgraded to 90 pounds, and track work progresses between Oswego, Newberg, Jefferson street depot, St Joseph, and McMinnville.

Tragic Suicide of H A Glenn Shocks Newberg

H A Glenn a salesman for J C Porter Co killed himself at home on Edwards and Franklin streets. He had recently faced financial strain and told neighbor he might not recover, with inquest declared unnecessary. Funeral services were held Thursday conducted by Rev. Geo C Ritchey.
