Population composition of Oregon in the early 1900s
The Oregon population totals 416,851 with 62 percent native whites of native parentage and 20.1 percent native whites of foreign or mixed origin. Foreign-born whites are 15.3 percent, with Chinese and Japanese 1.6 percent, Indians 0.8, and negroes 0.2. Urban areas show higher foreign-born and Asian shares, while Indians are largely rural. The sex ratio is 133.2 males per 100 females statewide, higher among foreign-born whites.

A string of social visits and home improvements outlined in Dundee. Mr Robb and family arrived from Scotland to visit the Wilsons as Wm Wilson’s household welcomed a new little daughter. Swink leveled and seeded the lawn and added a front lawn fence on Ninth street. Otterbrook orchardists were hosted by Mr and Mrs E S Greer with a Friday buffet and afterward games and music. The Dundee Cooperative Fruit Growers and Packers association adopted a building site report and appointed a purchasing agent after a Saturday meeting. W G Allen of Salem visited Dundee on Monday. Mrs Postel of Lafayette comes each Saturday with a millinery display at W J Gordon’s store, a local convenience welcomed by area women.

Abbott Imprisoned for Debt in Yamhill County
For the first time in Yamhill County history, H M Abbott was imprisoned on a debt judgment. Sheriff of Multnomah County arrested him April 5 and he was jailed, then released on bail. habeas corpus proceedings followed and Judge Davis remanded him again. Attorney Kirks asserts fraud. appeal to the supreme court expected. Abbott formerly ran a business in Newberg with partners Hutchcroft and Matthews.

The Farmers Society of Equity held a meeting at Chehalem Center last Saturday to grow the local chapter. New officers were elected I N Campbell president Carlos Johnson vice president D A Honey secretary and treasurer Delegates were chosen for county Fernwood and state Portland conventions. Oakley and Honey traveled to Dundee to assist H F Cutting in forming a local unit. The Prune Growers and Packers Association joined the effort forming a strong local group.

Edmondson resigns as Troutdale mayor after liquor arrest
S A Edmondson a Troutdale saloon keeper agreed to resign as mayor after a night in jail on a liquor to a minor charge. Sheriff Ward demanded he stop drinking at his saloon and reimburse Harold Brundige for the incident. The Troutdale Town Marshal faces revocation of his special deputy commission.

Two Albany Boys Drown In Muddy Creek Near Oakville
Pearl and Ernest Wiberg sons of N P Wiberg of Oakville drown in Muddy Creek while crossing in an old scow. Bodies recovered four hours later. No witnesses, likely scow caught in swollen water. An older brother heard them cry for help and tried to save them. The family recently moved from Newport to a farm near Oakville. Survived by several brothers and sisters.
