The Columbia River Branch of the Women’s Foreign Missionary Society held a semi annual convention at the M E church in this city with delegates from Oregon Washington and Idaho. Mrs Matt S Hughes presided and Dr Hultt of Rose City Park Portland gave the opening address on Con scription with humorous anecdotes and a contrast to religious conscription. Miss Laura Austin spoke on two Indian missions and Dr F L King recalled thirty years as a missionary in the country.

West Dayton Area Gets Paving on Pacific Highway
Cement arrived this week allowing paving on the West Side Pacific Highway south of here. A seven mile stretch from Dundee to West Dayton will be paved linking to existing pavement toward McMinnville. Paving also proceeds on the McMinnville three mile lane, paving the county seat road to Portland.

Mystery Solved Dinamite blast near Chehalem Mountain
The noise and shock heard last week by locals were caused by a dynamite explosion. Mrs. Anton Kutchanek reported the blast came from a case left about a half mile from their home on Chehalem mountain. Workmen set it off to protect children, and it had been cabled at the site for some time.

Pacific College opens its baseball season with a 4 p m game against the Chemawa Indian School on the college diamond in Newberg. Local Quota Drive for Chinese Relief Growing
The Chinese relief fund drive in Newberg gathers momentum with over 400 pledged at the M E church last Sunday. Newberg aims for a 1000 quota, with Presbyterian church already pledging 100 and about 30 from outside sources. Mrs. Bertha Adolph Dies After Illness in Portland
Mrs. Bertha Adolph, 66, wife of Louis Adolph of the Fernwood district, died at St. Vincent's hospital after cancer treatment. Remains were brought to Newberg. funeral set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Hollingsworth chapel with Rev. Berkhalter officiating. She had lived near Newberg about thirty years.

Fire Department Seeks Electric Siren for Quick Alerts
The fire department plans to replace the fire bell with an electric siren to speed alarms from the central office. Claire Williams would soon become heir to Portland estate
Hoquiam Washington April 11 Special Claire Williams 28 was killed at Littell Washington when struck between moving logs. He would have inherited about 250000 from Richard Williams of Portland his uncle if he had survived. The estate valued near 500000 was to be shared with his brother Fred Williams. Claire Williams mother resides in Newberg Oregon and sister in law Audrey Lind lives near Chenoise Creek.

Highway Bridges Planned Across Oregon in 1921

Southern Pacific to add twelve red electric cars to Portland line

Fire Destroys Dopp Farm Home on Chehalem Mountain
Fire last Saturday six miles north of town destroyed the Dopp farm home known as the Brisbine place. Sparks from the flue ignited moss on the roof. loss covered by a $1,000 insurance policy. The family now occupies the other building on the property with Mr Dopp and his parents.

Dental Inspection Offered to City School Children
Free dental inspection was provided to over six hundred local school children last week under the guidance of the Parent-Teachers Association. The committee includes Miss Grace Wilson Miss Pretty man Miss Streeter and Mrs Josephine Bradley.
