The College Clee Club presents a program in two parts at Wood-Mar Hall on Friday evening April 21. Readers include Prof. M D Hawkins. Prof. Hull leads chorus numbers with Mrs Hull at the piano. Admission begins at 25 cents with few reserved seats at 365 cents.
Miss Appn M Turley of Oregon Agricultural College taught farm women in Yamhill County during a ten day itinerary. She demonstrated cheap labor saving devices such as the fireless cooker and wheeled trays to cut fuel use and improve comfort. The program included cooking serving and decoration, plus farm labor aids under guidance of M S Shrock. Public meetings and home visits emphasized practical homemaking and efficiency.
A Sunday meeting next week will feature an in depth look at missionary work in Africa. The Springbrook Society plans to study local customs religions and the history of missionaries who labored there. Lyle Hubbard chairs the missionary committee and will lead the service.
The senior class received solid gold class pins and rings bearing the class seal of sun earth and moon. J W Stevens Portland fire marshal spoke on fire prevention to seventh and eighth graders and demonstrated a fire alarm box with help from three visiting firemen including Charles Heveland, an alumnus. Ruth Meyer returns after illness. Frank and Lloyd Murdock visit from Sherwood. Mary Bennett recovers from appendicitis at St Vincente hospital Portland and stays at home in Scholls.
Rubyn Turney master violinist will present a recital at the Presbyterian church Friday evening April 28 with Miss Gertrude Brewer of Chemawa as pianist. Turney, honorary member of the American Guild of Violinists, was elected by unanimous vote of the directors. Admission is free by invitation only as he seeks a location for a school of music in Newberg.
U S Department of Agriculture official outlines last year’s corn fairs while urging strong juvenile participation and local seed corn use. County Agent M S Shrock pledges support for exhibit rules premium lists and final fair details as N C Maris notes the juvenile emphasis and value of nearby seed. The publicity committee invites ideas to enhance the fair for community county and state levels.
Work on the new home for the Newberg Telephone Co. is well under way with G. Eb. How as contractor. The brick front building will feature plate glass and six bright rooms including public lobby managers’ office operating room apparatus room rest room store room and battery recharging workshop. The move ends years of cramped quarters and is welcomed by the staff.
A court filing lists Anna Jay Gore James H Hutchings and Lucien as parties in a legal matter. The notice outlines proceeding steps and identifies involved ages and roles in the matter.
An afternoon in honor of Miss Edith Brunqus was held at Miss Ethel N Mor's home Saturday from 2:30 to 5:00. Fancywork demonstrations filled the first hour. later a lesson on how to “bring up a husband” amused guests. A two course luncheon was served with tea salad rosettes chicken sandwiches lemon cake chocolate and mints. Attendees included teachers and a few close friends of Miss Brun.
Fire Marshal Stevens lectured to students in Portland last Thursday. Professors Taggart Hawkins attended a Portland historical meeting on April 5 where Rabbi Jonah E Wise presented Jewish sources on early Christian history. The W C A cabinet officers conference met at Forest Grove with several P C attendees reporting a good time.
Rev Hicks presided at the regular Y M C A meeting Wednesday. Clarence Jones to represent P C in the Prohibition Oratorical Contest at Forest Grove this Friday night. Other schools include Eugene Peece Willamette McMinnville Pacific University. Orations focus on a concert in Wood Mar Hall Friday night April 21. A good program is assured.
At a Dayton meeting the Yamhill County Farmers Union unanimously invited the state union to hold its next annual session in Yamhill County. The previous meeting was in Idaho and the Willamette valley was chosen as the locale for future gatherings. Newberg and McMinnville clubs offered to host delegates. John U. Smith.
The "Little Missionary Society" and their teacher Mrs Vera Nelson were treated after school by Mrs Liter pastor of the Friends church. A missionary contest awarded Edith Sanderman and Ruth Kane books on the life of Christ.

On Saturday evening at Ribbon Ridge the West Chehalem Band held a social hop and skit titled The Silent Barber Shop. Admission was 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for students.
The Commercial Club of Newberg plans an autumn corn fair to spark interest in corn growing, claiming Oregon yields rival the corn belt. Local farmers report 70 bushels per acre, with Marion County records of 1000 bushels on 10 acres in 1915.
