New York University Chancellor Rebukes University Trust Critics
Dr. Charles MacCracken of New York University delivers a speech at the School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance arguing that regional universities form a virtual trust. He warns against monopolistic support structures that stunt competition, urges legislative backing for a veterinary college and expanded programs, and laments unequal endowments versus richer neighbors. He cites tuition profits and faculty salaries as signs of imbalance, and calls for inter-university cooperation rather than suppression.
