Arson Trap Catches Suspect Behind West 46th Fire

Grocer Peter Carusl of 451 West 46th Street reported Black Hand threats demanding 2000 dollars. Early today detectives nabbed a man amid an arson attempt on a double five story tenement housing 140 occupants. The hall and stairs were saturated with gasoline and rags soaked in fuel lay about. The captured man identified as Vincent Umberto, 22, of 451 West 46th Street and First Avenue.

Society Folk Fight Fire at Fahnestock Stables

In Hastover Lenox Mass this afternoon Mrs Harris Fahnestock and her guest Philip Curtis of New York fought a blaze in the Fahnestock stables. The fire was in a hay loft, and the couple helped lay hose. Curtis assisted in hauling hose as Lenox firemen confined the fire to the loft. The building suffered slight damage.

Henry Farman and Wife in Aeroplane Smash

Henry Farman and his wife were aboard a plane at Etampes France when at about 100 feet it suddenly pitched toward the ground. The machine struck hard. Farman was seriously injured in the leg though conscious, and his wife suffered a fractured elbow in the crash.

Autoist Almost Drowned Near Brewster Bridge

Carmel New York September 21 Miss There Kennedy seriously injured when touring car owned by Mrs John TH Burton New York skidded into a stone wall over the Croton River a mile east of Brewster. She was hurled from the car over the bridge wall and down a twenty foot embankment into the river. The chauffeur’s quick assistance saved her from drowning.

Telegraph desk report from Thomasville Georgia says Representative S Anderson Roddenberg is dying at his home from heart trouble and related complications after a sinking spell this afternoon. Prison break at New Jersey State Prison ends in deputy death

Black Diamond and accomplice Johnson attempted a jail break as prisoners gathered for chapel services. Diamond shot deputy E. B. Stetser, was wounded, and both attackers were captured.
