Ex Governor Odell nearly withdrew yesterday from state committee control as Tammany Hall faced turmoil over the governor race. Governor Higgins called primary results gratifying while Norman E. Mack in Buffalo opposed Hearst and backed Mayor Adam for governor.
Presidents of both Liberal and Moderate factions brief Taft and Bacon on reading of terms for peace. Menocal reports peacemaking efforts. Isle of Pines Americans present grievances. Taft estimates ten days to complete mediation, seeks broad faction input. Zayas warns of delays reaching camps. Palma and Taft discuss release of Liberals and potential electoral measures.
In eastern Cuba near Juragua, fifty armed mounted rebels led by Captain Vicente Costa and Lieutenant Prancisen Salmon seized the Fir mining town and two blasting batteries after presenting a forged signature to mining superintendent Whittaker. They took explosives and supplies, threatening to derail railroad transport unless protected. The incident unfolds as tensions rise in the region.
John H. Springer senior, manager of the Grand Opera House, and his family were injured when a touring car was crushed between two Broadway street cars near the Imperial Hotel. Springer, buried in debris, was rescued and rushed to hospital with internal injuries while his wife and children were pulled to safety. The chauffeur was thrown twenty feet. a passenger, actress Catharine Cameron, was also thrown clear. A diamond pin from Miss Gladys Springer was recovered by a policeman and returned to Mrs Springer. The incident followed a cigarette igniting gasoline and a brief fire, quickly contained by firemen.

Albany reports Governor Higgins called ex Governor Odell’s statement very manly and expressed gratification at possible renomination after yesterday's Republican primaries. He warned the party risks from boss control and said he does not expect to attend the Saratoga convention. He will remain in Albany until tomorrow night or Friday morning before going to Olean and returning Monday morning.
About two hundred patrons at No 122 Park Row fled in a panic when a lit cigarette dropped into a moving picture machine. The celluloid film burst into flame, causing chaos as cries of fire rang out. Damage estimated at 200 dollars. manager Jacob Bin shi tried to quell the rush but to no avail. Patrolman Perkins alerted the fire brigade though firefighters were not required. The machine was ruined.
In Buffalo amid Democratic rifts Norman E. Mack renounces Hearst for governor and endorses Mayor Adam of Buffalo. Mack sent a district letter declaring Hearst’s Independence League nomination makes him find it improper to back the Hearst ticket. Adam replied that he would consider any nomination if offered, signaling possible party unity ahead of the Buffalo convention.
Ex Governor Odell conceded defeat and will retire from the state GOP chair. Tammany Hall pressure grows for Sulzer or a preferred candidate, with Murphy urged to unite around Gaynor or Sulzer. Hearst faces opposition as Buffalo convention doubts his viability. Republican County Committee to reshuffle under Parsons with uncertain leadership in the 30th and 3rd districts.
ex Governor Odell effectively abdicates control of the New York Republican Party saying Higgin s and Roosevelt must run the party. He urges followers to bow to the majority as leaders from Quigg to Hines accept Parsons’s plan and hint at a looming county alignment in Orange and Saratoga.
