Stanton found dead near Jamaica after missing since September
Gerald N. Stanton son of a prominent merchant, missing since September, was found dead near Jamaica. A carbolic acid boule lay beside the body. He had been last seen coming to New York to join his wife Margaret Downing from Greenwich Conn. The death was deemed self-inflicted by the coroner, though his family denied suicide. The victim, about 26, stood 5 feet 7 inches, with brown hair and blue eyes, wearing a blue serge suit. A Masonic emblem appeared in his coat buttonhole. He left Lawrence Long Island a week earlier. He had no money on him and a pawn ticket for a gold watch was found. The marriage was the result of a perilous boat incident on July 4 1801. The wife and her mother deny suicide and expect him to return.

On a steep incline thirty to three hundred yards from E H Harriman's cottage a car rolled backward after losing power. Miss Herrick, eighteen, was killed instantly. Dr Rushmore, found in a critical state with severe spinal injuries, was carried to a nearby cottage. Herrick was visiting Tuxedo. Rushmore belonged to local clubs and the New York Academy of Medicine.
