Harriman to Receive Mexican Rail Subsidies
Mexico City reports E. H. Harriman and associates will obtain subsidies totaling about 20 million Mexican dollars, roughly 10 million in gold, for a Pacific slope railroad and Sonora branch lines. Engineers say long stretches may cost little beyond the subsidy to build, with plans to extend about eight hundred miles further to meet Tehuantepec lines. Harriman interests are said to control the Pan American line extending toward the Guatemala border and planned extension into that country.
