Death by Own Action at Hotel Roland
Louis Miller 61 of 2158 Arthur Ave Bronx died yesterday morning by shooting in Hotel Roland 56 East 59th Street. The gunshot occurred in front of a mirror with a nerve tonic bottle on the dresser. Coroner Scholer noted the man had a long habit of visiting the hotel and had no baggage. Family says motive unclear though recent forced stays downtown unsettled him.

Central New England takes over Newburgh Dutchess line
Hartford on September 1 reports the Central New England Railroad has cancelled the lease of the Newburgh Dutchess and Connecticut Railroad to the New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad and resumes operation of the road with an extension from the Poughkeepsie Bridge to Campbell Hall New York. The move brings a large portion of through freight back to the Central New England system. Ten heavy freight locomotives have been ordered and new crews will be formed with headquarters in Hartford to man the trains.

Man Attempts Kidnap of Officer's Young Son in Wakefield
A six year old, Elbert Roberson, son of Patrolman Elbert M Roberson, was grabbed from in front of his home at 237th Street and Martha Avenue. Neighbors and the officer, weak from malaria fever, pursued the kidnapper who wore black clothing and a black hat. The suspect fled toward the woods and escaped on a trolley car after the boy was returned home unharmed.

Picnic Draws Tens of Thousands to Sulzer’s Park

Seven year old James Donohue rescued his brother David from drowning in the Bronx River near Beckerave. The boys, sons of Police Sergeant George H. Donohue, stood on a plank of a footpath over a fast running twenty five foot wide four foot deep brook. James risked himself, grabbed David, and inched to shallow water to pull him to safety.
