Mrs Le Roy and daughter injured in auto crash near Canton
Boston Aug. 31 Mrs Stuyvesant Le Roy and her daughter Mrs Amos Tuck French of New York and Newport were seriously injured in a high powered automobile accident near Canton. The crash occurred when a front spring broke and the chauffeur lost control sending both women through the air as others remained in their seats. They were rushed to Hotel Touraine Boston for treatment at night. Mrs Le Roy is 65 and prominent in society and philanthropy.

In Albany on August 31 Mrs. Jacob M. Dickinson wife of the former Secretary of War lost a handbag with a diamond necklace and other jewelry. The loss delayed Viscount Haldane's special train until early morning as Mrs Dickinson and her husband ex Judge Alton B Parker searched taxis and hotel rooms. A reward telegram from Judge Parker was sent to the hotel for the return of the jewelry.

Mayor Gaynor's letters and speeches have been collected into a 520 page book to be issued Wednesday. Editor W I Northrop notes the volume covers about 150 letters plus messages to the Board of Aldermen and several magazine pieces. The compiler selected from a large corpus, noting Gaynor wrote more than two thousand letters he deemed publishable. The fly leaf quotes I sometimes write a letter just for fun. The book features a preface, autographed frontispiece, and a photo, and will sell for 13 1 2 dollars.

Girl Burned to Death in Street Yard Fire
Annis Keatshak five years old of West 12th Street burned to death yesterday after her dress caught fire during a yard bonfire behind 283 Broadway. Neighbors called Dr Kergan who treated the girl at Knickerbocker Hospital but she died hours later. Francis Starr Jr four years old of West 124th Street also burned badly and was taken to the same hospital. It is believed he ignited his clothes with matches found on the stairs.

Hippo Drowns Playmate After Dog Enters Tank
Caliph UL, a two year old hippo born in captivity in Central Park, surprised a passing English pup by entering its tank. The hippo treated the dog as a companion, splashing and circling as waves rose. When the dog disappeared, workers drained the tank and found the pup drowned at the bottom.
