Gillette returns to New York in Samson at the Criterion

The article reviews William Gillette’s return to Broadway in Samson at the Criterion Theatre. It denounces the play as a depraved, vulgar portrait of Parisian society with a plot driven by deceit and revenge and lauds Gillette’s strong performance as Maurice Brachard while noting Constance Collier’s promising debut and mixed reception of the female role.

Servant in the House revival at the Savoy Theatre

The Servant in the House by Mr. Kennedy is revived at the Savoy Theatre and likely to run a good stretch. The drama blends sound morality with humorous satire of religious pretension, though the bishop is pictured with exaggerated caricature. Arthur Lewis shines as the Bishop for his faithful portrayal and strong stage presence.

The Servant in the House staged with boldness and breadth

Tyrone Power gives a strong half-savage bellicose vagrant performance in The Servant in the House. Edmund R. Kennedy, Matthison, Hampden, and Mabel Moore fill key roles as the clergyman, his wife, a virtuous figure, and the young daughter. Critics call it a relief from current plays with mixed ethical reception.
