Marble pedestal of Delhi throne platform at museums

The article describes a white marble pedestal 22.5 inches high that supported the platform for the Peacock Throne. Sir Purden and Lord Curzon dispute its relation to the throne, noting the throne was looted by Nadir Shah in 1739 and destroyed after his death, while the pedestals came from Delhi after the 1857 Mutiny and were conserved in London and later at the Metropolitan. Captain Tytler saved two pedestals. Sir Purden bought one for South Kensington and one for the Metropolitan. The pedestal features an eight foot square platform base, a sixteen sided compressed shaft, lapis lazuli, carnelian, jade, and yellow marble inlays, and floral arabesque decorations.
