Missing Baronet Mystery Linked to British Columbia Inquiry
The piece explores the 1898 disappearance of Sir Arthur Curtis, third baronet, with an Indian guide on the way from Ashcroft to the Klondike. It notes a revived Canadian investigation prompted by a potential challenge to Lady Curtis’s marriage, details Pocock’s Frontiersmen expedition account, and connects broader disappearances to financial or romantic motives, including echoes of Sir Roger Tichborne and James Roche. It also reports Lord Gort’s New York arrival and outlines the Gort Vereker Prendergast line and historic Irish ties.

Vintage Life in Paris and Nearby Wine Regions
Paris observers describe the widespread cheap wines sold in shops for 6 to 8 cents a quart and the hidden country markets where peasants drink picolo at 3 to 4 cents a bottle. Harvest customs bloom in villages with avis notices and vendangeurs gathering grapes under the Tree of Liberty as roses frame the vines. Wages for grape pickers run about 60 cents daily with employers supplying meals, and the crude piccolo wine is made by treading berries and stems together in the village vats.
