Shonts Urges Regulation and Ownership in Railways

Theodore P. Shonts, president of the New York Interborough Metropolitan Railway, told a Water Transportation session that regulation should not paralyze development but guide it. He warned against purely Commission operation and urged a square deal for railroads with rate freedom and government oversight, plus a deep waterway from the Great Lakes to the Gulf. Resolutions called for rapid deep-water channel construction and government support for transport by waterways.
