Amsterdam Corporation proposes an electrically operated four track subway belt around Manhattan to replace Central tracks and connect with New Jersey yards. The plan aims to eliminate street traffic, reduce noise, speed freight, and link with regional rail lines while linking receivers directly via riverfront tunnels. Bryan Bankers Clash Over Federal Deposits Plan
Denver September 30 delegates to the American Bankers Association opened their convention with Colonel J D Powers of Louisville arguing federal deposit guarantees echo the 1896 free silver fervor. He warned of a New York 1826 1842 law causing bank closings, a million dollar state subsidy, and twenty year solvent bank taxes. The body adopted a resolution urging carriers to issue value only bill of lading forms after January 1 1908, a reform backed by the Interstate Commerce Commission to curb fraud impacting loans and credit institutions. The program included welcomes by Governor Buchtel and Mayor Speer, Wilson of Princeton on banking and Woodrow Wilson on the nation, plus a Denver ball at Eljbet Temple.
