Great Freight Tube to Encircle the City Plan
The Amsterdam Corporation proposes an electrically operated four track subway belt line around Manhattan to haul freight from Jersey yards to receivers via rails on the waterfront. The scheme links 60th Street to The Battery and into The Bronx, with surface belts to major rail lines and a New Jersey classification yard, aiming to reduce street traffic and harbor delays. It notes expected benefits and cites Chicago as a partial model.
