City officials and engineers dispute contractor claims on a 429 pound curb set for 9500 and 1247 for erection. The curb failed quality tests yet was billed, with reports suggesting reductions and questioning warrants, bidding rules, and use of hydraulic jacks in bridge erection. Continued on fourth page.
Jacob Nazer, builder of the Roedeph Sholem temple, plans to apply his acoustics remedy to The New Theatre in New York after proving success in Pittsburgh. His approach uses harmonized material affinity to absorb and deflect sound, with the contract for the New Theatre contingent on Pittsburgh results.
Telegraph reports the home of cricketer George B. Warder in East Penn street was robbed of jewels estimated from 3.40 to 8,000 dollars. The theft, likely last Saturday, left Mrs. Warder prostrated. Jewelry in a bureau drawer was stolen while other pieces remained untouched. A five dollar bill beside a jewel box was not taken. Four long-time servants swear no one entered during the absence, and are not suspected.
London reports Sporting Life has launched an international self-defence board with two British representatives, two U S members, Australasia and France each one. The board will frame international championship rules, set weights, decide challengers, and provide belts and trophies. Lord Lonsdale is suggested as president of the first board.
Count P. A. De Vries of Holland gained access to Forest Hill and spoke with John D. Rockefeller about funding his plan to drain the Zuyder Zee and convert the water bed for truck farming. The promoter was admitted to the grounds and followed Rockefeller around the golf links as they talked.
On the eve of John D. Rockefeller's eastward departure, Euclid Avenue Baptist Church pastor W. W. Bustard announced at the men's club annual dinner that a great institutional church is expected to be erected on the present site. Former pastor Dr. Charles Eaton and Bustard urged Rockefeller to support the edifice, believed inspired by Bustard.

Choate former Ambassador to Britain visited the Hudson County Courthouse Jersey City to prove his signature as a witness to the will of George Fuller who died at his Jersey City home on November The will was drawn October 29 18 The witness recalled forty one years later but confirmed his signature Fuller a retired iron merchant. His daughter is married to Justice Charles W Parker of the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Justice Francis M. Scott of the Appellate Division apologized to the Board of Estimate and Apportionment for proposing a $4,000 salary raise for city justices. The board rescinded the resolution with all members voting against it, except Controller Metz who defended higher pay. Mayor McClellan noted protests from county lawyers and others, while Scott defended his actions and accepted full responsibility.

Percy A Rockefeller son of William Rockefeller and nephew of John D Rockefeller is reported to be on the road to recovery after an operation for appendicitis. He was under the care of Dr Frank Hartley at Greenwich Conn and the procedure was performed with family at the Rockefeller home. A Yale 1900 graduate he once captained his college football team and is a director of several firms including Chicago Milwaukee St Paul Railway and Mechanics National Bank.
Henry Carl Metzscherling, about sixty, a wealthy Bay Ridge property owner, shot himself in the right temple at his 17th Street home near Shore Road. He left a note citing blindness as the cause. Agent Thomas Bennett, who had just delivered funds, reported a final exchange about money as Mrs. Metzscherling and Bennett heard a shot. Dr. Hugh Rodden ruled the death instantaneous.

London Nov 29 The House of Lords backed the government on the constitutional issue amid sharp speeches. Viscount Morley argued against Lord Lansdowne s departure from ordinary usage while Lord James of Hereford supported the Liberal Chancellor s view that the Lords cannot properly reject or suspend the budget. Other peers critiqued the tax and defended or attacked the financial plan as the debate ran past midnight.
Lord Morley delivers a powerful address on the budget in the House of Lords, stressing the referendum’s risks and the need for responsibility in the Commons. He warns that a large majority for Lansdowne will widen the gap with the opposition and trigger a political scandal.
Reports from San Salvador say President Zelaya of Nicaragua vainly appealed to Mexico for help after U S plans for reparations. Dispatches from Managua to the Italian Minister in San Salvador state Zelaya offered to summon Congress and place the Presidency in its hands, effectively abdicating.
King Manuel of Portugal attended an Opéra performance in Paris when "King" Pataud union secretary delivered an ultimatum to the management demanding higher electrician salaries or a blackout. Director M Broussan agreed to the demand as a result. Manuel had earlier visited Versailles and strolled the boulevards.
San Francisco November 29 An order issued in the Superior Court postpones all bribery graft cases until January 10 1919. Francis J Heney will have no further role in the prosecutions with disposition left to District Attorney Fickert.
A wealthy Argenteuil peasant sued Leon Goldsmith an alleged American doctor for 16000 dollars claiming a share in a gold from river sand scheme. The plaintiff says Goldsmith produced gold dust samples for display and later disappeared leaving no trace.
Five deck crew members of the gun boat Marietta were rescued by a Des Moines party after drifting in a gig off Port Limón Costa Rica. They reached Coleta Point near Port Simon. The whaleboat remains unrecovered and two other men are still missing.
Marile Acosta widow died from burns after claiming on her death bed that Miguel Gomez the rejected suitor with two men forced entry into her West Tampa home last night bound her hands and feet saturated her clothing with gasoline and touched a lighted match to her. Gomez is under arrest.
Patrick Rafferty, a stretcherlayer, returned to 1122 Putton Street and attacked his household. He beat his mother-in-law Mrs. Margaret Kelley, cutting her with a broom handle. Rafferty cut his wife’s throat. Mrs. Rafferty died at St. John’s Hospital. Brother-in-law Frank Ohland was injured trying to help. Rafferty’s self-inflicted throat wound was not life threatening. he remains under arrest. A witness, Ondland, was taken into custody as a material witness.

The Fourth Presbyterian Church sale proceeds are charged to Lilley’s indebtedness totaling 1518 16. Prosecution plans were undecided a local news brief notes the matter.
