The War Office confirms a plot against Lord Roberts' life in Johannesburg. The Field Marshal's brief message backs reports from The Evening Standard. Britain anticipates anger and calls for swift punishment and tougher action against the Boers.
The Evening Standard reports a mob plot by twenty foreigners to blow a mine during Lord Roberts's church service in Johannesburg. Police and guards disrupted the plan. ten men, largely Italian, were arrested. War Office dispatch notes five Italians four Greeks and a Frenchman detained November 16 awaiting trial for intent to explode a mine at St Mary's Church during morning service November 18.
Kruger spent a full day in Paris meeting Premier Waldeck Rousseau and the Municipal Council with brief private interviews. He was welcomed by crowds outside the Hotel Scribe and at the Hotel de Ville, praised by officials, and praised the French for arbitration.
