Thomas F. Ryan resigns from the directorates of several railroad and other corporations stating his accumulating interests and responsibilities prevent attending numerous meetings and fulfilling fiduciary duties to stockholders. He says severing these affiliations will best serve the financial and fiduciary institutions with which he is associated.
The influential financier Mr. Ryan declares his departure from many industrial and railroad company boards after years of service. August Belmont and Benny D. Macdona support his decision, noting continued advisory ties with his associates and broad approval from his business peers. Ryan's career spans Bethlehem Steel, Consolidated Gas, Union Elevated Rail Road, Seaboard Air Line, and others.
Washington reports Major General Ainsworth ordered suspending discharges of the three Negro 25th Infantry companies after the Brownsville shooting pending Taft and Roosevelt guidance. Protests surge. possible investigations and officer explanations noted. Fort Reno paid 25 soldiers for discharge and return home the same day.
At the monthly Republican Club meeting a nominating committee was elected for the December session to pick the 1909 officers. The committee includes Arthur L. Merriam Charles S. Whitman William Einstein John Little Paul R. Towne Robert C. Morris Warren Higley William A. Keener and A S Gilbert. District Attorney Jerome secured an indictment charging Alderman George Markett with bribery after he allegedly wrote to former Street Cleaning Commissioner Woodbury offering to reinstate an Italian worker in exchange for favorable action. Jerome plans to ask for dismissal in General Sessions.
