Brave Motorman Lifts Woman From Painted Car Frame
Mrs. Rose Dale 56 of 545 West Thirty-sixth Street narrowly escaped being struck on Broadway when a southbound car driven by Motorman Alexander Jacobson 929 Columbus Avenue saved her by lifting her from the track just before impact. The rescue occurred about 6 pm after a northbound car passed too closely. Mrs. Dale suffered nervous collapse and fainted onboard, later recovering and going home. Jacobson defended his actions saying he could not release the brake or power and that saving lives is a day’s work.
