In New York a landslide plurality favors Odell by about 100000 to GOP and Democrat factions, with Senate results signaling strong party support. Voter turnout and regional margins reflect a decisive outcome amid a heated statewide race.
New York’s large plurality for McKinley and Roosevelt tops the national tally with an estimated 926,000 vote lead. Odell Jr. wins governor by a sizable margin as Republicans gain seats in both Senate and Assembly, and GOP picks up seven Republican congressmen in the state. Washington delegation shifts to 23 Republicans and 11 Democrats from 16 and 18 previously.
Cheyenne report at 8 p m states McKinley carries Wyoming by over 3000 in the statewide tally. Mandel, Republican Congressman, elected by 2500. Legislature chosen on joint ballot expected to be largely Republican.
Carson Nevada November 6 special report Bryan will probably carry Nevada by about two thousand votes. Newlands appears besting Farmington Republican for Congress but outcome remains uncertain.
Utah voters report doubtful but probable Republican gains as McKinney seems to have carried the state. Heber M. Wells, the Republican Governor candidate, appears likely to prevail while expectations point to a mixed statewide ticket and Salt Lake County leaning Republican.
The enlarged city of New York shows Bryan with a leading plurality over McKinley. Estimated late last night at 27,436 with Brooklyn supporting McKinley while Queens and Richmond tilt toward Bryan. Manhattan and The Bronx add 28,239 more for Bryan. historical comparison suggests McKinley led in 1896 across the then smaller area.
Brooklyn again favored McKinley in 1900 with a sizable plurality though not as large as 1896. Brooklyn tallies show McKinley 97,951. Bryan 94,459. McKinley’s plurality 5,492. Odell likely carried Brooklyn narrowly, with 4,793 to Stanchfield’s 93,591 and an Odell plurality of 1,202.
Chicago results show McKinley with 9,000 majority in 480 precincts. He is projected to carry Cook County by at least 28,000 and the state of Illinois by about 100,000.
Returns show McKinley ahead by over 50,000 in Minnesota. Governorship uncertain with Van Sant leading Lind. Van Sant carried Minneapolis while Lind appears to have carried St. Paul. Likely election of six or seven Republican Congressmen.
Oregon reports a 10000 plurality for McKinley in the state election. In June two Republican Congressmen and a Republican state ticket were elected.
Cincinnati November 6 special reports returns indicate a McKinley plurality in Ohio under sixty thousand with seventeen Republican congressmen likely. J B Foraker noted in dispatches.
Indianapolis reports at 10 o clock show a Republican lead as ballots come in with a heavy turnout. Clay County reports a fatal shooting during the election while Marion County’s 10 precincts indicate McKinley gains. Durbin runs close to the national ticket as Democratic and Republican congressional results split across districts. New telegraphs Indiana leaning Republican with larger majority.
Sioux Falls reports the state casting its largest vote ever with McKinley carrying by 5 000 to 10 000. In the hills district Republican Charles Martin defeats Fusionist Judge Moore for Congress by a large margin. The contest between Charles H. ...
At 10 oclock Republican gains show Nebraska repudiating Bryan by 5 000 to 8 000 majority. Douglas County precincts shift toward McKinley while Omaha count favors Republicans. Legislature likely Republican. state ticket shows mixed results with several Republicans leading and Populist and Democrat incumbents trailing.
Detroit November 6 President McKinley has carried Michigan beyond doubt with conservative estimates placing the majority at 65 000. The Evening News notes that if the statewide ratio holds through the remaining districts his total could reach about 90 000, compared with a 41 542 margin in 1866.
Burke, Republican, leads in the Id District for Congress as Burke sits ahead of Governor Lee Fusionist in a close race. Charles B. Herreid wins the gubernatorial contest over B H Lien by several thousand. Pettigrew defeated for U S Senate. Republicans to have joint ballot in Legislature, Burke expected to win Congress with 15 to 20 vote majority.
Baltimore dispatch reports a 25,000 plurality for President McKinley in Maryland with a solid Republican delegation elected to Congress. Felix Agnus of The Baltimore American confirms the result in this special cable.
The Republican state ticket has been elected though by a tighter margin. Analysts believe the party also secured all congressional nominees in the election results.
In Louisville and surrounding counties McKinley leads by 4 059 in 180 of 200 precincts while Yerkes trounces Beckham by 4 408. Democrats claim gains across the state though exact tallies are not supplied. Political committees assert favorable outcomes despite the missing figures.
Early returns show McKinley leading Bryan with an estimated 292 electoral votes to 155. States shift to Republicans: New York by 120,000, Nebraska by 8,000, South Dakota 5,000, Wyoming 3,000, Delaware Maryland and West Virginia decisively Republican, Illinois still large for McKinley though reduced. Democratic managers conceded early as Far Western states’ delays ceased affecting the result.
From Butte Montana returns show Silver Bow County delivering about a quarter of the state vote. Bryan leads statewide by around 20 000 with the Democratic Fusion ticket victorious and fusionists poised to control the Legislature which selects two United States Senators.
Boston reports an enormous McKinley Hobart plurality drop from 173000 in 1896 to 97000 in the current vote, with the XIIIth District still favoring Republicans and several districts changing hands. Washburn may be reelected in Worcester, Flynn could win the Vth for Democrats, and Boston shows a Bryan plurality of 8000 while McKinley carried the city by 15000 in 1896.
Fargo reports Republicans gained across North Dakota on November 6, with the majority expected to exceed the 5600 lead from four years ago. State ticket aligned with national trends as results show broad gains.
New Haven report at 11 oclock shows McKinley leading by 29 000 votes and the Republican state ticket ahead by about 12 000 with all four Republican Congressmen returned. By 11 20 p m 155 of 168 towns report Bryan 31310 McKinley 49167 GOP net gain 9 per cent Democratic net gain 37 per cent. McKinleys Connecticut plurality estimated near 20000.
North Carolina predicts Bryan will win by about 25 000 votes. Expected Congressional winners include J. H. Small, Claude W. Kitchin, Charles R. Thomas, Edward W. Poll, W. W. Kitchin, John D. Bellamy, and Theodore F. Kluttz for Democrats, with E. S. Blackburn and J. M. Moody as Republicans. J. P. Caldwell, Editor Observer.
Jackson Mississippi November 6 Special Mississippi will give Bryan a majority of 50,000 in national return. Congressmen elected include Candler Ist District Spight IId Henry Ilth Fox IV Williams Vth McLean Vith Hooker Vlith all Democrats.
