Hearst Missed Vote Despite Urging Civic Duty
William Randolph Hearst avoided voting yesterday after a long campaign urging citizens to choose the right candidates. He remained at his northeast corner home on 28th Street and Lexington Avenue as photographers waited at No 164 East 29th Street, about three blocks from his residence. A messenger learned he had left home shortly before polls closed, but the election result stood as Hearst could not vote due to illness. His secretary reported constant callers and refused to comment on the outcome. The polling place was listed at an undertaking establishment.
