President Roosevelt arrives in Oyster Bay at 7:20 PM to vote amid a thousand cheering locals, bonfires, and fireworks. Secret Service clears a path as he and Mrs. Roosevelt tour the station, greet crowds, and head to Sagamore Hill. He plans to vote, then proceed to Philadelphia for a Masonic Temple celebration before returning to Washington.
President Roosevelt and party left Washington at 11 45 AM for Oyster Bay on a special Pennsylvania Railroad run. Secretary Cortelyou Assistant Secretary Loeb Dr Lung and four secret service men accompanied him. He arrived at 11 20 AM and greeted supporters on the platform before continuing his trip with a lighthearted mood and remarks about the Virginia outing. The president said it was splendid and that he enjoyed it.
Miss Laura Biggar surrendered to Monmouth County authorities in Freehold New Jersey and was placed in the county jail with her counsel Samuel Frankenstein of New York City. She faces charges of conspiracy with Dr F C Hendricks and Justice Samuel Stanton in an alleged estate defraud scheme involving Henry M Bennett. Indictments likely by November 12 with arraignments and trial dates to follow.
Aden, Arabia November 3 Colonel Swayne is recalled to England to serve as adviser to the Foreign Office. General Manning takes command of the Somaliland expedition and orders a three thousand man advance against the Mullah around November 27. Manning omits Indian troops, relying on native levies believed more effective. Rumor says the Mullah raided a British outpost near Bohode capturing a large camel transport.
Paris November 3. Seconds for Marquis de Dion and M. Gerault Richard of the Petite République met and fixed conditions for a duel to be fought tomorrow. Place and hour to be decided. Weapons chosen are swords. The duel stems from a recent quarrel in a Chamber of Deputies corridor where both men serve as members. Marquis de Dion’s seconds are Bruneau and Syveton.
A six ton iron girder swung into place on a Broad Street building in Philadelphia causing a fatal accident below. Laborer John Mendel died instantly as the beam crashed through the second and third floors. William L. Elkins narrowly escaped when the platform collapsed. He was aided to safety at the Union League Club and later walked home, shaken but uninjured beyond shock.
London readers see a fresh flare in the Morgan Yerkes tube dispute as George White, head of London United Tramways, calls a Times letter “myth” and claims Morgan talks failed to discuss proposals. Edgar Speyer condemns press clashes and Sir Lewis McIver’s Commons remarks are cited, while Speyer insists the matter is now closed for his firm.
The Palmer Rockwell dispute centered on bequests and stock gifts to Mrs Susan Rockwell. Palmer forgave her on his deathbed and asked a Sunday reconciliation. He left major gifts to schools, and the stock dispute may extend to his estate. Also Anthony Comstock pressed Libel action against Rev Dr Rainsford over Ida Craddock case remarks.
The mother of Roland B Molineux visited him in the Tombs and voiced confidence in an acquittal. A police wife witnesses claims she saw the poison package mailed from the General Post Office on December 23, 1898, with handwriting experts to testify. The defense will show the witness mailed a Wisconsin package at the same time and place to corroborate part of her account. The trial resumes tomorrow with handwriting experts and about ten more witnesses expected before a verdict this week.
Judge Thayer of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Western Union Telegraph Company has a perpetual right and title to its right of way across the Great Northern line, with compensation due for materials moved. The 825 mile line is valued at 2 500 000 dollars, and the ruling potentially affects rights on all Western Union routes.
Washington nov 3 rumors swirled around the Panama Canal talks as Sefior Herran of Colombia visited the State Department raising talk of instructions to finish negotiations promptly. Herran said Bogota news was awaited hourly while denying any immediate breakthrough. Hay expects progress by week end and his return teed with the talks.

London November 3 The granddaughter of the Duke of Cambridge Mrs Olga Hamilton received a divorce decree today on grounds of desertion and alleged misconduct with an unknown woman. The case drew a society-filled courtroom, recalling the 1897 marriage of Miss Fitzgeorge, famed for beauty. Hamilton is son of Sir Frederick Hamilton and distantly related to the Duke of Abercorn.
