Stamina Romps Home in Historic Ladies Stakes at Belmont

Berry Payne Whitney's Stamina, last year's top two year old filly, won the fortieth running of the Ladies Stakes for three year old fillies at Belmont Park. Anonima, trained by James R. Keene, finished second after a strong late drive, with Jeanne d Arc and Laughing Eyes among the other starters. The race highlighted Stamina's growth and suggested she could dominate the three year old fillies division this season unless a strong return by Nasturtium-Endurance.
