Tokio reports Emperor Yoshihito is gravely ill with pneumonia and a high fever after a cold. The Crown Prince Hirohito is a twelve year old. officials fear regency strife and political turmoil if the Mikado dies amid domestic and international pressures.
Baltimore May 22 A report from the banking sector says the firm of Middendorf Williams & Co. will reorganize around June. The plan reportedly dissolves the current firm and forms a new partnership including Lancaster Williams Frank A Munsey and T Garland Tinsley of Nashville with active roles.
Washington May 22 President Wilson cabled the Japanese Emperor expressing sorrow and concern over reports of the monarch’s indisposition. He offered sincere sympathy on behalf of the United States and hoped for a brief illness and rapid recovery.
Private Bax ter Dalton and Christian of the United States Coast Artillery were killed at a night practice when the breech block of a 4.7 Inch gun exploded at Fort Moultrie. Captain Guy B. G. Hanna was wounded and nine soldiers were seriously injured. Details were scarce due to the fort's location across the bay from Charleston.
John Kagura, six, leaned from a Greenwich Street home window yesterday, prompting Patrolman Cullum to attempt a catch. A misjudgment in rain caused the fall. the boy sustained only minor cuts. Dr Hogarty at Volunteer Hospital treated him. Cullum claims assistance for the incident.

About 10000 silk weavers back at work and more expected. Tresca freed on $200 bail. Haywood and other leaders denounced by speakers as authorities seek to end disturbances.

Henri St. Ives, an aviator once linked to political intrigue, soared above Hempstead Plains in a monoplane while Captain Appleby of the local police waved a warrant. After fuel ran out, he landed and was arrested by Appleby with Justice Hubler ordering him to county jail in default of a 340 dollar ball. Peter McLaughlin, keeper of the Aviators Inn, said St. Ives had not paid his bill since January 1 and planned not to pay.
Patrolman John Taggart from East 104th Street station intervened when a ten year old boy, Gerald Richland, raved and wrecked furniture. The boy, alleged morphine and alcohol user, was arrested and sent to Bellevue Hospital for observation, then to a Jewish Protectory in Hawthorne after Justice Mayo ruled.
Jurors heard Kendall say Senator Stilwell offered $250 to draft a bill and to pay for the work, with Field taking notes of a thirteen minute overheard phone call. Lewis testified Stilwell never received money, while Nott pressed witnesses over payments and approvals to influence Governor Sulzer and the bill's passage.
